Thinking Your Thoughts After You
Words: Jesse Rey Quesada.
Long, I strayed, with darkened mind,
Set adrift in folly’s sea;
Captive to each wave and wind –
Slave to every crafty scheme.
Then the gospel showed me life –
Anchored me upon the truth.
Now my soul knows one delight:
Thinking Your thoughts after You.
Though my years of futile pride
Warped my passions, views, beliefs;
You have taught me what is right –
You alone define all things.
Lord, I lay my old self down,
That my mind may be renewed;
And Your likeness, I put on –
Thinking Your thoughts after You.
May I hold no vain design
Which is contrary to Your Word;
Nothing in the world I find
Set against the Spirit’s sword.
Jesus, to Your words I cling,
For I know their sum is true.
Now by grace, Lord, let me be
Thinking Your thoughts after You.
