Wayward on the Road of Folly
Words: Jesse Rey Quesada. Music: Bryan Jeffrey Lee.
Wayward on the road of folly –
Beaten down my wand’ring feet;
Stranger to that way the godly
Walk by grace – the path of peace.
In the dark I stumbled blindly,
Numbered with the scoffers' fold;
Lust and pride my only glory,
Slave to sin's relentless hold.
But that day came when His mercy
Found me straying in the street,
And though I sojourned unworthy,
Wisdom called aloud to me.
"Turn to me, you naive wand'rer,
Spurn your simple-minded aims,
And the Spirit of the Father
Will be light unto your way."
Then by grace I saw my folly,
And beheld my dire estate;
So in faith, I fled to Calv'ry,
Through salvation's narrow gate.
There my burdens, Jesus lifted,
As He washed my weary feet;
And though in my sin I drifted,
By His pow’r He set me free.
Jesus, now, be my true compass,
Guide my path and be my light;
Lead me on the road the righteous
Walk by faith, and not by sight.
Though that road be marked with suff’ring,
Bind my soles and lead me through,
As I journey home to heaven,
Where I’ll ever walk with You.
